The technology foundation for Opterro began with the sparkle of light in the eyes of two world-famous Stanford professors and one of their brightest graduate researchers at the time. That was back in the 1980’s and some 50 patents later, today, the light shines stronger than ever in Opterro’s portfolio of modular, plug & play commercial solutions.
Benefiting from nearly fifty million dollars of R&D investments and grants, and with a following of leading-edge customers across multiple industries, Opterro offers best-in-class end-to-end products and solutions.
Opterro’s turnkey products and solutions are used globally for sensing requirements within Data Centers, Semiconductor Fabs, Energy Utilities, Smart Infrastructure, Manufacturing, Utilities, Renewable Energy, Research & Development, and Aerospace & Defense: Essentially anytime and anywhere an application requires a smart sensing solution. Many of our products are rooted in pioneering technology developments for leading sponsors and customers like NASA, DOD, DOE, DOT, NIH, NSF, and commercial partners including major aerospace primes.
Opterro’s fiber-optic sensing product family selected as Finalist for Best of Sensors Award 2021
Opterro’s family of distributed fiber-optic sensing products with onboard and cloud-based intelligent analytics has been recognized as Finalist for the Best of Sensors Award for 2021. The award highlights cutting-edge advancements and achievements that are moving the sensors industry forward. These prestigious awards will announce the category winners during Sensors Converge, taking place this September 21-23 in San Jose, CA.
Best of Sensors 2020 Award for i*Sense® distributed fiber-optic sensing solutions
We were recognized as the winner of “Best of Sensors 2020 Award for i*Sense® distributed fiber-optic sensing interrogators” in November 2020. We earned the win for the Most Innovative Product in the Data Acquisition & Analytics category of the Best of Sensors Awards 2020, which honors winners in 11 product categories. “Entries were judged and winners selected on the basis of value to the marketplace, uniqueness of the design, and the impact (i.e., the bigness of the problems solved or issued addressed)”. The i*Sense® product family, offered by Opterro, Inc. is an integrated and scalable temperature and strain sensing system consisting of multiplexed Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) sensors on an optical fiber and an ultra-fast interrogator unit with advanced all-optical processing, electronics, algorithmic software, and data analytics layers from DC to 1.3 MS/s and beyond for distributed photonic sensing in structural health monitoring, NDE, acoustic emission, and other advanced multisensor sensing applications.
Opterro’s solutions are based on a comprehensive, expanding portfolio of over 50 issued patents and patent applications created at our sister company IFOS and licensed to Opterro. The strong IP portfolio includes its enabling technologies such as: (i) massively-parallel Photonic Spectral Processor (PSP), (ii) optical channel interleaving for dense spectral coverage, as well as (iii) sensor systems applicable across multiple industrial markets and applications.
Moreover, Opterro’s solutions benefit from a rich library of trade secrets covering a wide range of hardware, firmware, and software technologies and know-how, including: sensor design, fabrication, calibration, and deployment; digital signal processing for challenging measurements; and intelligent algorithms implemented in the interrogators’ algorithmic application-specific software to convert data into insight enabling decision aid.
Led by successful, innovative serial entrepreneurs, Opterro has assembled a world-class team with some of the best engineers (software, systems integration, photonics, optoelectronics, field service, and application engineering), physicists, data scientists, and signal processing specialists. The company benefits from the guidance of a distinguished Board of Directors and Advisory Board.
